On May 19, Iranian President Abrahim Razi and three other government officials died in a helicopter crash near Iran’s northwestern border with Azerbaijan, as the Iranian people and their allies mourn their deaths.

The future leadership of the Islamic Republic is uncertain.

The system suffers from a domestic legitimacy crisis.

They have just completed their parliamentary elections and voter turnout in the second round in Tehran was record low.

Only 8% of the population voted according to Iranian law.

First Vice President Mohammed Makar has succeeded Razi as acting president, while new elections to select a permanent successor are expected in the coming weeks.

However, the president’s unexpected death also disrupted succession plans for Iran’s aging supreme leader Ali Khomeini, as Razi was widely seen as next in line as history progressed.
