Life without parole for man who sexually abused 5-year-old girl | Local News

A Jefferson County jury has sentenced a man to life in prison without parole for sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl. The jury in District Judge John Stevens’ courtroom handed down a 99-year sentence to 30-year-old Peyton Smith of the Netherlands.

The crime occurred in January 2020 and Smith has been in the Jefferson County Jail since his arrest in May of this year.

According to prosecutors, Smith recorded the sexual assault on a 57-second video and used it as evidence at trial.
