1 dead, another seriously injured in crash in West Islip

A two-car collision early Saturday morning in West Islip left one person dead and another seriously injured.

According to police, the collision occurred at Route 231 and Union Boulevard just before 2:30 a.m

According to Suffolk police, a vehicle carrying five people traveling west on Union Boulevard lost control and struck another vehicle carrying two people on the side.

Authorities said the crash brought down power lines and snapped two utility poles.

Neighbors told News 12 they witnessed numerous motorists speeding along Route 231.

“It’s sad that someone lost their life, but speeding happens all the time on Route 231 and John Street. People need to slow down and respect life,” said a resident.

Police have not yet revealed the names of those involved in the accident and the circumstances that led to it.
