State Police Investigate Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash in Newark – Delaware State Police

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred in Newark this morning, resulting in the death of one man.

On May 11, 2024, at approximately 11:25 a.m., a Chevrolet Cruze was traveling east on East Chestnut Hill Road and turned left onto Chestnut Crossing Drive. At the same time, a Ford Mustang was traveling westbound on East Chestnut Hill Road in the left lane. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Ford appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed and the front of the Ford struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 47-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The unbelted backseat passenger, a 27-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was ejected from the car. He was taken to an area hospital where he died. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

The driver of the Ford, a 19-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the accident scene was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Police ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact Sergeant J.
