1 dead, 1 injured after Grass Valley DoorDash driver falls asleep

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. – A 35-year-old woman died and a 35-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash near State Highway 20 and the South Ponderosa intersection in Nevada County Saturday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two were making a DoorDash delivery around 2:45 a.m. when the man fell asleep at the wheel.

The CHP said her car went off the north side of the highway and crashed into a line of trees. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene and took the driver to a hospital in Roseville with serious injuries.

Investigators believe both the passenger and driver were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Neither drugs nor alcohol are considered factors.

Officers are still investigating the accident and identified the driver of the car as 35-year-old Josiah Moncrieff of Grass Valley.
