A Florida man called 911 after shooting his husband 10 times, police say

A Lakeland man was arrested after shooting his husband Thursday night, police said. Lakeland police said 27-year-old Gavin Miranda called officers to his home on Village Center Drive at 9:21 p.m. after he shot his husband, 30-year-old Hugo Gomez. According to an affidavit, Miranda said he and his husband were having “marital problems,” but that night was the first time their arguments became physical. The suspect told the 911 dispatcher that Gomez pushed him against a wall and began choking him, so he grabbed a gun and fired every bullet in the magazine at his husband. First responders found the victim lying face down on the living room floor. Investigators said Gomez was shot only once in the front of his body, but the nine other shots were fired into the victim’s back while he lay on the ground. The affidavit also states that nine bullet holes were found in the victim’s back and extending into the ground, which investigators said “clearly means the victim was defenseless.” Miranda was charged with first-degree murder. Police say if you know anything related to the murder investigation, you can email Detective Neal Robertson at [email protected] or call 863-834-6971.

Lakeland police said 27-year-old Gavin Miranda called officers to his home on Village Center Drive at 9:21 p.m. after he shot his husband, 30-year-old Hugo Gomez.

According to an affidavit, Miranda said he and his husband were having “marital problems,” but that night was the first time they had a physical altercation. The suspect told 911 dispatchers that Gomez pushed him against a wall and began choking him, so he got a gun and fired every bullet in the magazine at his husband.

First responders found the victim lying face down on the living room floor. Investigators said Gomez was shot only once in the front of his body, but the nine other shots were fired into the victim’s back while he lay on the ground.

The affidavit also states that the nine bullet holes were found in the victim’s back and continued into the ground, which investigators say “clearly indicates that the victim was defenseless.”

Miranda was charged with first-degree murder. Police say if you know anything related to the murder investigation, you can email Detective Neal Robertson at [email protected] or call 863-834-6971.
