Big names are on the table at the IBJJF Atlanta Spring Open 2024

The 2024 IBJJF Atlanta Spring Open took place on May 4-5, 2024 and several top competitors made the trip to compete in the tournament. The biggest winner of the weekend was Javier Barter, who dominated every category he entered and came away with four gold medals. Barter won the gi heavyweight division on day one, defeating Enderson Dias in the final match, before winning the outright division by defeating him once again. Barter returned on the second day to receive a gold medal by default in the super heavyweight division and he won a tough absolute no-gi division shortly after.

There were plenty of other entertaining matches on the first day, notably at featherweight where An Vu caused a surprise by defeating Malachi Edmond in the final. Jefferson Nascimento won gold at lightweight and he stood above two talented Movement Art grapplers on the podium, beating Nick Salles in the final and Danny Maira just before. Elijah Dorsey emerged victorious in the middleweight division and he came back strong later, finishing the day with a bronze medal alongside featherweight contender Huthayfah Penney.

There unfortunately weren’t many female competitors at the IBJJF Atlanta Spring Open 2024, but Larissa Dias still managed to put in a few matches against some tough opponents. Dias began by winning a gold medal in the super heavyweight division after defeating Lunna Vieira in the final match, and she also defeated young competitor Karoline Caramori in the final of the absolute division to win her second medal. gold of the day. Unfortunately, there have been no adult black or even brown belt matches in the women’s non-gi divisions, and there have only been a handful of blue and purple belt matches.
