For a profile on Kamala Harris, the New York Times inadvertently interviews a notorious woman who was once imprisoned for an incident involving a bowl of Wendy’s chili and a severed finger

  • The Times examined voters’ views on the race between Trump and Harris
  • One of the people portrayed was Anna Ayala, a 58-year-old Democrat who voted for Trump
  • Ayala is a convicted felon who once stuck a severed finger into a Wendy’s chili bowl

A New York Times profile of voters expressing skepticism about Kamala Harris was mocked for including a mention of a woman who stuck a severed finger in a bowl of Wendy’s chili.

The old grey lady has published a snapshot from where the voters were after Harris was essentially replaced Joe Biden as the democrat Candidate against Donald Trump.

One of the people they interviewed was a 58-year-old “registered Democrat” named Anna Ayala, who said she would vote for Trump because “the situation at the border is out of control.”

The newspaper was forced to retract these claims after social media revealed that Anna Ayala had been in prison twice, one of which was in connection with a bizarre 2005 incident involving the severed finger.

The mother, who has long filed lawsuits, was released from prison after serving a four-year sentence for the gruesome Wendy’s chili finger case in 2005.

The New York Times was ridiculed for interviewing Anna Ayala without knowing that she served four years in prison for putting a severed finger in a bowl of Wendy’s chili

The bizarre hoax attracted worldwide attention after Ayala dropped the 1.5-inch piece of her ring finger into her bowl of fast-food chili.

As it turned out, Ayala’s husband, Jaime Plascencia, had bought the digit for $100 from a co-worker who had lost it in an accident. He then took it home, where Ayala cooked it and put it in her food on March 24, 2005.

Wendy’s claimed they lost $21 million in revenue due to the false accusations. Ayala served only four of the nine years she was originally sentenced to.

In 2013, Ayala was sentenced to another two years in prison, this time for lying about a shooting involving her son.

The so-called Chili Finger Lady was arrested in October of that year after telling police that her son had been shot in the ankle by two men.

Her son, Guadalupe Reyes, accidentally shot himself with a gun he was not allowed to own because he was on probation for aggravated burglary.

Ayala lied to avoid going to prison as a felon for possession of a firearm.

Reyes was also sentenced to two years in prison for this same charge.

Ayala fabricated detailed accounts of two men “shooting” her 26-year-old son outside their home in San Jose, California.

Junior Reyes told them that he had been attacked by two men “without sense or reason.”

After she and her son mixed up their stories, they were both arrested by police in February.

Ayala was charged with aiding and abetting a serious crime and making a false report to the police.

Because Ayala is a convicted felon, he is barred from running in federal elections, which led the Times to issue a retraction the day the article was published.

“The Times removed a constituent’s comments from an earlier version of this article after learning that the individual had been convicted in connection with an extortion plot in which she made fraudulent claims,” they wrote.

The newspaper has since deleted all mentions of Ayala’s comments.

The Times’ original article said Harris filled the void left by her boss, Joe Biden, when he decided to drop out of the campaign.
