Several injured and pet killed in house fire in Escondido on Sunday afternoon

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) – Several people were injured in a house fire in Escondido Sunday afternoon.

At 12:37 p.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to calls for a fire at a home in the 2000 block of Eucalyptus Avenue in Escondido.


When firefighters arrived, thick black smoke could be seen rising from the front of the house, the Escondido Fire Department reported.

According to fire officials, a resident and a neighbor suffered burns while attempting to return to the home to rescue a pet and were taken to the hospital with burn injuries. The severity of their injuries is currently unknown.

According to fire officials, the pet died of smoke inhalation and the San Diego Humane Society responded.

A firefighter was also injured while fighting the fire, but the fire department said that his injuries were minor and that he has since returned to work.

The Escondido Fire Department, along with a fire truck from Rancho Santa Fe, were able to bring the fire under control in less than 25 minutes.
