One PWHL player suspended, two fined following committee review – The Rink Live

TORONTO – The PWHL’s Player Safety Committee has handed down a suspension and two fines after further reviewing the games of athletes from Team Montreal and Minnesota.

Montreal forward Sarah Lefort faces a one-game league suspension, while teammate Mélodie Daoust was fined $250. Liz Schepers of Minnesota was also disciplined by the PWHL and must pay $500.

Lefort, a Quebec native and Boston University graduate, will be suspended following a minor altercation on open ice on May 4 against Boston. In the video below you can see how the 30-year-old holds her own on the ice and knocks down Boston’s Jamie Lee Rattray. Rattray is not in Boston’s lineup for Game 1 of the PWHL Semifinals and neither is Lefort as she begins serving her suspension tonight, May 9th. The Montreal forward has one goal and four assists in 24 games this season.

Lefort’s teammate Mélodie Daoust is also being punished by the league after the PWHL says she gave a Boston player a face mask during an on-ice scrum on May 4. She was fined $250 for the altercation. The Quebec forward has scored three goals and added two assists in just six games this year.

Liz Schepers of Minnesota also faces a fine after bouncing a check against a New York player on May 4. The Ohio State graduate was fined $500 for the action. The forward has three assists in 19 games for Minnesota in 2024.

The PWHL Player Safety Committee is chaired by Jayna Hefford, PWHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations. Other members include PWHL special advisor Cassie Campbell-Pascall, official Katie Guay, general manager Mike Murphy and NHL Player Safety member Matt McMahon.
