Bills RT provides update on training camp availability after offseason surgery

Buffalo Bills starting right tackle Spencer Brown appears ready to fully participate in the team’s 2024 training camp, which begins at St. John Fisher University in Rochester next week. The offensive lineman said he will be “fully operational” at the start of camp when speaking to Ryan O’Halloran of the Buffalo News at his youth football camp.

Brown underwent offseason shoulder surgery, though he doesn’t appear to have suffered a significant injury at any point during the 2023 campaign. He started all 17 games for the Bills last year, building off a solid season in which he dispelled many of the doubts the Buffalo faithful had about him.

Brown quietly suffered a torn labrum in the Bills’ AFC Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, finishing the game before further dislocating his shoulder on the drive home. He didn’t fully participate in the team’s mandatory minicamp in June, instead working on individual drills on the sidelines as he continued his rehab. His full availability on Day 1 is a promising sign that his recovery is on schedule, if not complete. It will also give the team’s reworked offensive line maximum time to gel, as Buffalo is expected to have a new starting center and left guard in 2024 (though the pads won’t be worn throughout the first few practices of training camp and, as a result, it’s not a perfect facsimile of how the offensive and defensive lines play).

Brown has conceded 42 total pressures in the 2023 season, according to Pro Football Focus, an average of 2.5 per game, which is a career-low. He will look to build on the solid foundation he built last season in 2024, the final year of his rookie contract. Buffalo’s training camp begins July 24.
