Man receives 8 years in prison for knife attack

A 35-year-old convicted felon pleaded guilty Friday and was immediately sentenced to eight years in prison for nearly killing a homeless man in a stabbing attack in Garden Grove.

Ronnie Alexander Vinal pleaded guilty to attempted murder, with enhanced punishment for aggravated assault and personal use of a deadly weapon. Vinal, who accepted a plea deal with Orange County Superior Court Judge Larry Yellin, received credit for 869 days served in prison.

According to police, Vinal stabbed the man multiple times in the face on May 15, 2022.
