Man allegedly chased couple with knife outside Walmart in Texas

The man is accused of chasing a couple through a Walmart parking lot with a large knife.

AUSTIN, Texas – A man facing multiple charges in connection with an apparent road rage incident now has a court date.

Yasmany Caceres-Cantu, 36, was arrested following an incident outside a Walmart in North Austin on July 6.

According to an affidavit obtained by KVUE, a Walmart employee overheard an argument in the parking lot while pushing shopping carts. When he went to see what was going on, he saw two people being chased by someone with a large knife.

Austin police said the couple rented a car from Caceres-Cantu and paid him money weekly, but the couple said he refused to pay through a phone app and this time demanded cash when they met at his apartment complex.

The couple refused to pay because Caceres-Cantu allegedly said the couple could no longer rent the car. When the couple left Caceres-Cantu’s apartment complex on foot, he allegedly got into the vehicle and chased the couple, nearly hitting them.

Caceres-Cantu abandoned the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot and pursued the couple on foot after allegedly telling his girlfriend, “Get the knife.” The affidavit states he then struck the victim’s girlfriend with the knife handle before she heard Caceres-Cantu say, “This is not over. I’m going to kill you.”

After the chase, Caceres-Cantu attempted to flee when he saw police, which led to a brief chase back to his apartment complex. He also reportedly attempted to resist arrest before officers handcuffed him with a stun gun.

Caceres-Cantu is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as escape and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 29.
