Suspect arrested in fatal hit-and-run in Eden

EDEN, Md. – Wicomico County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in December 2023.

The accident occurred in the evening hours of December 4, 2023 in the area of ​​S. Upper Ferry Road and Siloam Road. Officers responded to the scene and determined that the victim, Aaron Douglas III, was critically injured. Douglas was flown to a medical facility for treatment, where he died from his injuries on December 13.

Officers learned that the suspect vehicle had fled the scene and witnesses provided a description of the vehicle. A potentially suspicious vehicle was located a short time later and the vehicle was impounded pending investigation of the scene.

On May 6, the results of the investigation were presented to the Wicomico County Grand Jury, resulting in an indictment against Catherine Thornton. Thornton was arrested on May 8 and charged with Murder – MV/Vessel Drugs, Murder – MV/Vessel CDS, Involuntary Manslaughter, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and related CDS and traffic offenses.
