27-year-old man shot dead in Lawrence Park early Monday

A 27-year-old man died of a gunshot wound in Lawrence early Monday, just over a day after a teenager was shot and killed just miles away.

Lawrence police responded to a 911 call at Riverfront State Park on Everett Street at 12:18 a.m. and found the man with a gunshot wound to the head, Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker and Lawrence Police Chief Melix Bonilla said in a joint news release.

The identity of the man who died at the scene has not been publicly released by authorities.

Detectives with the Lawrence Police Department and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the incident. Tucker and Bonilla urged anyone with information about the shooting to call Lawrence police at 978-794-5900 or State Police detectives at 978-745-8908.

Monday’s incident came shortly after another fatal shooting in Lawrence. On Saturday night, police found a 17-year-old boy with fatal gunshot wounds in the Brook Street area. The boy, whose identity has not been publicly released, was pronounced dead at Lawrence General Hospital.
