“We couldn’t save the little girl”

A paramedic who helped a family in a car that caught fire on the Ocho Vías Highway on Friday. Havana expressed his deep regret that it was not possible to save a young girl who perished in the flames.

Miguel Sarmientoa young pre-hospital emergency medicine worker, shared on Facebook that his team was able to help two babies in time, but another girl could not be saved. “We had the privilege of responding to this emergency and were able to save the babies on the spot. Mobile124 is listening,” Sarmiento explained in the Facebook group “Traffic Accidents in Cuba.”

According to Sarmiento, two babies who were in danger were rescued, but “the other little girl could not be saved.” The accident occurred on Friday afternoon near the Cotorro Bridge, where a Kia Picanto overturned several times and caught fire.

A seven-year-old girl died at the scene of the accident and her family members are in critical condition.

Witness statements

Online users Zenia Labrada Lopez mentioned that the family in the car were their neighbors. “There was a couple with their baby aged between 7 and 11 months, the sister with her two children and the father of the two young women. The little girl who could not be saved was 7 years old, her brother is 5 and the baby’s mother, 17 years old, died at dawn. The baby is doing a little better, as is the father; the other three are the worst off,” she explained.

In the meantime, Yordanis Castellanos Preval confirmed that the deceased girl was his cousin’s daughter. “Our city is in mourning and overwhelmed by the grief of the tragic situation that weighs on us psychologically now that we know the news, and we eagerly await news of the cases being treated in the medical facilities,” he explained.

The causes of the tragic accident are currently unknown.
