Deadly fire in Aiken County under investigation

A fatal fire that occurred Friday in the Salley area of ​​Aiken County is under investigation.

According to a press release from the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, a residential building fire was reported in the 500 block of John Nunn Highway at approximately 7:13 p.m. on July 5.

Firefighters and police arrived at the scene and after the flames were extinguished, the body of a man was found inside. Due to the severity of the injuries, authorities were unable to identify the victim. The body will be autopsied in Newberry to determine the cause of death and assist with identification, the coroner’s office said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.
