France’s government spokesman is attacked in the election campaign just days before the crucial elections

PARIS (AP) — French government spokeswoman Prisca Thevenot was attacked during the campaign just days before a key parliamentary election. Prosecutors said Thursday they had opened an investigation into an armed attack on an official but gave no indication of the attack’s motive. Thevenot, a candidate for the centrist Ensemble alliance led by Macron, her deputy and a party activist were putting up election posters near Paris on Wednesday evening when they were attacked by a group. Prosecutors said four people, including three minors, were in custody.
