Rapes, atrocities in Bengal despite wife CM: Amit Shah | Kolkata News

KOLKATA/DURGAPUR: “Exploitation” and “rape” continued in Sandeshkhali despite Bengal having a woman chief minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday.

Shah, who was in Durgapur to address a rally, said the CBI began its investigation after the case was transferred by the Calcutta High Court.

“Sisters in Sandeshkhali were exploited and raped. The victims were selected based on their religious identity. The police did not investigate the complaints and the HC had to hand over the case to the CBI,” Shah said.

Critical of the role of the state government, he said, “Didi should be ashamed of the fact that women are being exploited in the state even though there is a woman CM (Mamata Banerjee) in Bengal. But we will put the perpetrators behind bars, even if they are hiding under the prison floor.”

Shah criticized the INDIA bloc, saying the alliance partners were involved in scams worth Rs 12 crore while Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot face charges for corruption worth “even 25 paisa”.

“Central authorities have recovered Rs 50 crore from the house of a Mamata Didi minister. They have found Rs 350 crore from a minister’s residence in Jharkhand. Yesterday they found Rs 30 crore in another minister’s house in Jharkhand,” Shah added.

Referring to the Bardhaman-Durgapur industrial belt, Shah said, “Mamata Didi’s henchmen have ruined the industrial environment. I came with a Modi guarantee. Help our candidates win and we will restart all industries.”

“They are spreading rumors that we will stop the steel mill. Rather, we will invest in steel and urea plants and ensure their expansion. Under Modi ji, India now stands second in global steel production,” Shah said.

“Under the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the partymen only extorted money from the workers and gave the loot to the nephew. We will hold the TMC goons accountable if they vote us to power,” he said.

Regarding Ram Mandir, Shah said the Congress had kept the issue in limbo for 70 years. “They all made Modi prime minister for a second time in 2019 and he won the case, laid the foundation stone of the temple and also dedicated the temple. Mamata Didi and her nephew were invited to the consecration ceremony. But they were not present as they wanted.” “I was afraid that they would lose their vote base to intruders,” Shah said.

“Can the people of Durgapur vote for those who boycotted Prabhu Shri Ram?” he asked.
