Deputies speak about UTV incident at Utica Rome Speedway – Oneida Dispatch

Police report

VERNON, NY — According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, officers responded to a reported accident involving an all-terrain vehicle resulting in personal injuries at the Utica Rome Speedway race track on State Route 5 in the city of Vernon at approximately 11:38 p.m. on Saturday, June 22.

When officers arrived on scene, they found that Samantha Lieber, 25, of Pennsylvania, had been operating a 2022 CFMOTO UTV on the race track while the race track was closed. Lieber lost control and the UTV rolled multiple times while she was operating the UTV on the track.

UTV passenger Allison Simmons, 29, of New Jersey, was trapped under the UTV after the accident. Lieber suffered a head injury and was taken to Wynn Hospital for treatment. Simmons was also taken to Wynn Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Members of the traffic police were assisted at the scene by the Criminal Investigation Unit, Forensics Unit, New York State Police, Vineall Ambulance and the Vernon Fire Department. The circumstances and cause of the accident remain under investigation.
