Brockton firefighter dies of cancer

BROCKTON – A Level 3 fire devastated several businesses in downtown Brockton. Fire Chief Brian Nardelli said firefighters responded to several reports of smoke and fire coming from a building at 880 Main St. The building houses Khalil’s Kitchen, Studio Sky Beauty Salon and Garcia Grocery and Tropical.

Officer Michael Kominsky, a 29-year veteran of the West Bridgewater Police Department, has passed away after a long battle with cancer,” Police Chief Timothy Nixon announced. Nixon said Kominsky joined the West Bridgewater Police Department in 1995 as a part-time patrol officer and became a full-time officer in 1998.

A luxurious chicken restaurant has established itself on the east side of Brockton, serving delicious creations such as creamy macaroni and cheese, Korean chicken and freshly squeezed lemonade.

Fire Chief Brian Nardelli said firefighters responded to multiple reports shortly before 1:30 a.m. that smoke and fire were coming from a building at 880 Main St. The building, which houses Khalil’s Kitchen, Studio Sky Beauty Salon and Garcia Grocery and Tropical, is “probably a total loss,” Nardelli said. “There’s a good possibility we’ll have to tear it down. We’ve had several roofs collapse. It’s probably a total loss,” he said.

“Honor, courage”: West Bridgewater police mourn 29-year-old veteran

A 29-year veteran of the West Bridgewater Police Department died Monday after a long battle with cancer, police said. “Earlier today, Officer Michael Kominsky, age 51 and a 29-year veteran of the West Bridgewater Police Department, passed away after a long battle with cancer,” Police Chief Timothy Nixon said in a written statement. Nixon said Kominsky joined the West Bridgewater Police Department in 1995 as a part-time patrol officer and became a full-time officer in 1998. He was the son of former Police Chief Robert Kominsky.

Budget dispute as Brockton schools ask for 97 ‘much-needed’ staff. What if the city says no?

While city departments are tightening their belts, Brockton Public Schools has not. That’s the picture city councilors sought to paint as they clashed with school administrators over spending during a four-hour, 40-minute budget hearing Tuesday. Brockton Public Schools officials are asking for $232 million for the fiscal year that begins July 1. That’s $6 million more than Mayor Robert F. Sullivan proposed in a budget proposal that Brockton City Council must approve by June 30 and that he submitted to state authorities to avoid bankruptcy.
