Wanted man arrested after high-speed chase on Houston Turnpike | Upper Gulf Coast

Houston, TX – A man with multiple warrants for his arrest was arrested after a high-speed chase on the Sam Houston Turnpike, authorities said.

Nighttime deputies observed a Toyota Camry traveling 90 mph in a 50 mph zone in the 9000 block of E. Sam Houston Parkway N. When deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated up to a speed of 100 to 110 mph. The suspect drove from the Garrett Road entrance ramp onto the main lanes of the E. Sam Houston Turnpike, reaching speeds of 120 mph.

During the pursuit, the suspect crossed all northbound lanes of the turnpike and struck the inside curb, ending the vehicle pursuit in a grassy median near the highway wall Sam Houston toll plaza. The suspect then escaped on foot, jumping over the highway wall and running west into a grass field south of Redemption Square Road, where he fell and surrendered to police .

Deputies identified the suspect as Marquise Jones, who was the subject of six active arrest warrants with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for charges including retaliation, criminal trespass, injury to a child (two counts), assault and battery and aggravated robbery with murder. weapon, according to the press release.

While conducting an inventory of Jones’ vehicle, officers located a stolen 9mm handgun. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges of “motor vehicle fraud” against Jones. After confirming the warrants, deputies transported Marquise Jones to the Harris County Jail where he was booked.
