KDOC investigates death of inmate at Lansing prison

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Brian Jones, an inmate at the Lansing Correctional Facility, died Friday, June 21.

Jones, 47, was admitted to a local hospital on Tuesday, June 18, and was pronounced dead by hospital staff on the afternoon of June 21. The cause of death has not been released, pending an independent autopsy.


When an inmate dies in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections, the death is automatically investigated by the KDOC and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation is currently ongoing.

Jones was serving a 34-month prison sentence for sexual exploitation of a child in Johnson County.
