Man from Areekode sentenced to 104 years in prison for raping his underage daughter for seven years

Malappuram: A man has been sentenced to 104 years imprisonment for raping his minor daughter for seven years. Judge S. Resmi of the Manjeri Fast-track Special Court (2) on Friday ordered the convict, a 41-year-old from Areekode, to spend life in prison. He was also fined Rs 100,000.

The court had also denied him bail during the trial after the police alleged that he could influence the survivor. He was sent to Tavanur Central Jail.

The man was accused of raping his daughter (born in 2006) from the age of 10 to 17. He stayed with his wife and two children. The crime came to light after the girl went to a hospital in Areekode. At the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where she was referred, she was found to be pregnant. The pregnancy was terminated on the advice of doctors.

Areekode Police Circle Inspector M Abbasali, SI M Kabeer and Assistant SI K Swayamprabha investigated and filed the chargesheet. Special Public Prosecutor AN Manoj appeared for the prosecution who produced 24 documents and presented 22 witnesses.

The various charges and the corresponding punishments: POCSO Act, Sections 5(m) (whoever commits sexual assault on a child below twelve years of age) and 5(n) (whoever is a blood relative of the child) – 25 years each; Sections 9(m) (whoever commits sexual assault on a child below twelve years of age) and 9(n) (whoever is a blood relative of the child) – 6 years each; Section 9(l) (whoever commits sexual assault on the child more than once or repeatedly) and IPC, Section 376(3) (whoever rapes a woman below sixteen years of age) – 20 years each. He was also convicted of threatening the survivors under IPC and Juvenile Justice Act.
