Netflix House will fill the gaps left by closed department stores

The first Netflix House locations will open in “two of the most popular shopping malls in America,” according to Netflix, the Galleria Dallas and the King of Prussia Mall. They will occupy the sites of former department stores and each will have over 100,000 square feet of space.

The decision to open the first locations in shopping centers is likely to be well received by Stranger Things fans, as Season 3 of the series focused on the ’80s-style Starcourt Mall, which was recreated in a real-life mall that has since been demolished. Although the mall was not open to the public during filming, Netflix has previously opened other themed pop-up experiences, the popularity of which apparently convinced the company that it needed permanent locations.

Details on what exactly will fill all that space and attract fans to the streaming giant’s first two permanent locations are still scarce, but according to Marian Lee, Netflix’s chief marketing officer, it will include “regularly updated immersive experiences” and “unique food and drink offerings.”

Aside from concept art, Netflix hasn’t revealed what these two venues will look like, but today’s announcement revealed that “on the outside, fans will be treated to some jaw-dropping sculptures and a mural featuring characters from their favorite Netflix titles.” If there’s anything that can save the country’s dying malls, it’s statues of terrifying Demogorgons outside them.
