Chinese boss (51) accused of raping and firing a Zimbabwean teenager (17)

A 51-year-old Chinese national has been charged before the Gweru Magistrate’s Court with raping and impregnating a 17-year-old local girl.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the Chinese national and his alleged rape victim worked together in a mine in Gweru. The NPA said:

The 17-year-old complainant was employed as a laborer at the time the offence was committed.

The State’s case is that the defendant raped the plaintiff on the floor of his office on November 15, 2022.

He released the complainant shortly after the offence was committed.

The case came to light when the plaintiff became pregnant and confided the crime to her mother.

The plaintiff gave birth to a baby girl the following year. On June 13, 2024, a report was filed with the police, which led to the arrest of the defendant.

The accused was remanded in custody until June 28 after appearing briefly before a Justice of the Peace in Gweru on Monday.
