Chef Gordon Ramsay says he is ‘lucky to be alive’ after bicycle accident

Mr. Ramsay’s hands seemed to shake slightly.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay expressed his gratitude for staying alive after a serious cycling accident in Connecticut, USA. Ramsay attributed his well-being to the fact that he was wearing a helmet during the accident, stressing that it could be life-saving.

In a message on Instagram, he showed significant bruising on his chest, as well as photos of a damaged helmet and torn clothing, serving as a stark reminder of the impact of the accident.

Chef Ramsay, 57, said: “Hey guys, it’s Gordon here. I want to share a very important message with you all. You know how much I love cycling, triathlons and Ironman (races) etc and this week I unfortunately had a really bad accident which has really shaken me and honestly I’m glad to be here.

“These incredible trauma surgeons, doctors and nurses in the hospitals have taken care of me this week. They have been amazing, but honestly, you have to wear a helmet.

“I don’t care how short the ride is. I don’t care… these helmets cost money, but they are essential. Even on short rides, kids have to wear a helmet now.

“I’m glad to be standing here. I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week. And somehow I’m getting through it.”

In the short Instagram video he shared with his 17 million followers on Saturday, Ramsay’s hands appeared to shake slightly.

Alongside his post, he wrote that he was fine and had not broken any bones or sustained any major injuries, but that he had a few bruises and looked like a purple potato.

Mr. Gordon said he was treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut, and the helmet saved his life.
