Federal authorities investigate plane crash near Chino Airport

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a small plane with two people on board crashed at around 12:35 p.m. on Saturday, shortly after takeoff from Chino Airport.

The plane was a twin-engine Lockheed 12A, said FAA spokeswoman Mina Kaji. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident, Kaji said.

A spokesman for the Chino Valley Fire District said two people died in the crash, ABC7 reported. No other people were on board the World War II plane, and the identities of the fatalities have not yet been determined.

A witness told the television station that the two men killed were attending a Father’s Day event at the Yanks Air Museum.

An NTSB spokesman said Saturday that an investigator was expected on site Sunday to begin documenting the accident scene and examining the plane. The wreckage would then be recovered and taken to a secure facility for further examination.

This is an evolving story.
