1 person killed and 4 others injured in shooting in Fairmount Park

A shooting late Friday night in Fairmount Park, adjacent to the city’s Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, left one person dead and four others injured, including a 14-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys, police said.

The shooting occurred at around 10:50 p.m. in the park on Greenland Drive near 33rd Street and Ridge Avenue. Police reported that a crowd of about 100 youths was there when the shots were fired.

About 20 minutes later, a person described only as female was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital, police said. She had been shot in the chest and shoulder.

The 14-year-old boy, who was presumably shot twice, was taken to Temple University Hospital by paramedics. The boy’s condition was initially unclear.

According to police, a third person was injured in the same shooting, but no further information was available about that victim.

Shortly after the shooting, a 15-year-old boy showed up at the Temple with a gunshot wound to the leg. The boy reported he had been shot several blocks away, but police suspected he might be among the victims shot in or near the park.

About half an hour later, a 15-year-old boy reported that he had been shot in the leg at a gas station near the original crime scene. His condition was not known.

Police reported no arrests.
