DEA and Jeffersontown police seized several kilos of meth and fentanyl – enough to kill millions

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Jeffersontown police and other agencies seized several pounds of meth and fentanyl on Wednesday – enough to kill the entire population of Louisville several times over.

According to a press release from the Jeffersontown Police Department, the agency seized 11 pounds of fentanyl and 30 pounds of meth. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Louisville Metro Police Department.

According to the press release, four people were also arrested in the incident. Police believe the two were planning to distribute the drugs throughout Louisville.

Irvin Calencia, 22, Omar A. Melendez-Solis, 32, Diego Valenzuela, 21, and Luis Angel Lopez-Cota, 21, were arrested by police. All four men are believed to be from St. Louis, MO.

According to the DeaJust two milligrams of fentanyl are enough to kill a person. This means that the 5.5 kilograms seized by the police could have killed almost 2.5 million people.

“The amount of pills seized in this operation could kill the population of Louisville many times over,” said Erek Davodowich, assistant special agent in charge of the DEA’s Louisville Field Division. “I am incredibly proud of the DEA, J-Town and Louisville Metro working together to prevent these dangerous drugs from entering our community.”
