ABC-7 FIRST WARNING: Record heat today, hot weekend ahead

Due to the hot temperatures, our ABC-7 first warning in the border region is still in effect! We have broken our daily record of 106 degrees Celsius from 1980. Today we reached 109 degrees! That also makes today the hottest day of the year.

A heat warning is in effect for the Rio Grande Valley in El Paso and Hudspeth counties. A heat warning is also in effect for southern New Mexico, including Las Cruces.

The hot weather will continue throughout the weekend, but some cooling is expected during the coming work week.

I advise everyone to drink plenty of fluids, take breaks in air-conditioned rooms or in the shade, and check on your neighbors. It’s HOT!
