Former Hove MP Ivor Caplin has been suspended from the Labour Party

Ivor Caplin previously served Hove between 1997 and 2005. His suspension came shortly after the suspension of former Labour MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle.

Mr Caplin declined to comment.

The Argus understands that Mr Caplin is not currently a member of the Labour Party.

After originally being elected to Hove City Council, Mr Caplin stood as a Labour MP for Hove for eight years.

During this time he served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence during Tony Blair’s tenure as Prime Minister.

Mr Caplin’s suspension came two weeks after Lloyd Russell-Moyle was also suspended from the Labour Party – just before the general election selection process.

Mr Russell-Moyle, who has represented Kemptown as an MP since 2017, will not stand in this year’s general election. Instead, Chris Ward will be the Labour Party candidate.

Mr Russell-Moyle denied the allegations, calling them “vexatious and politically motivated”.
