South Bend police officer fires gun, injures someone; police release few details

SOUTH BEND – One person was hospitalized after a South Bend police officer fired his firearm.

South Bend police reported they were called to a call near the intersection of Niles and Colfax Avenue around 6:40 a.m. on June 11.

According to police, no officers were injured.

Police have not released any further information about the case, including whether the person in the hospital was shot by the police officer or what incident police were investigating.

Due to an agreement between the municipalities, the investigation is being conducted by the St. Joseph County Police Department and the Mishawaka Police Department. This is an ongoing process and more information will be released as it becomes available.
