Candy store employee hospitalized after incident

A shop owner is in hospital with facial injuries following an incident in his store.

Evidence bags were stacked at a cemetery near the Sussex Sweet Shop in Broadwater, Worthing, last night following the attack, while officers cordoned off the area.

The first reports of an altercation between the employee and two men were received by the police at around 2:30 p.m.

Shortly afterwards, officers cordoned off the sidewalk and the store on Broadwater Street East, and paramedics took the injured shop owner to hospital for treatment.

Detectives were called to investigate the incident. They placed what appeared to be a cash register in a nearby cemetery in an evidence bag, wrapped in blue tape and under constant observation by an officer.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “There is currently an increased police presence in the area while investigations are ongoing.”

“Anyone with information is asked to report it to police online or by calling 101 quoting reference number 752 of 04/06.”
