Maryland parole officer found dead after residency check

Authorities are searching for a man in connection with the death of a Maryland parole officer whose body was found Friday night in an apartment in Chevy Chase, just outside Washington, D.C.

The victim, whose name was not released pending notification of next of kin, went to check on 54-year-old Emanuel Edward Sewell but did not show up at work, officials said in a statement Saturday morning.

Just before 6 p.m., Montgomery County police officers were dispatched to Sewell’s home to check on the parolee. When they arrived, they found the man’s body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The manner and cause of death will be determined at a later date by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Sewell, a convicted sex offender, was nowhere to be found, police said.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division obtained an arrest warrant for Sewell and have accused him of premeditated murder.

Police are now asking anyone with information on Sewell’s whereabouts to call 301-279-8000 or visit the Crime Solvers of Montgomery County website P3TIPs.com.

However, the authorities are urging caution. Sewell could be armed and is considered dangerous.

“Do not approach the suspect if you find him,” Montgomery County police said.

A reward of up to $10,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest. Tips can remain anonymous.
