Joan Collins claims that her first husband, Maxwell Reed, drugged her and raped her on a date.

In the BBC documentary This is Joan Collinswhich premiered in the UK on Saturday, dynasty The 88-year-old star said the Irish actor raped her on their first date in his London flat after giving her a rum and coke laced with the drug Rohypnol. She was 17 and a virgin at the time; Reed was 31.

“The next thing I remember is lying flat on the couch and he was raping me,” Collins said. “At the time, my mother would have said I was taken advantage of. Today we call it date rape.”

She married Reed in 1952 and said today she did so “out of shame.”

“If I hadn’t been so innocent about sex and the way things should be, I wouldn’t have done it,” she said. “But I felt a lot of guilt, so I did it.”

Their honeymoon “was a fiasco,” Collins said. “On the outside we seemed happy, but in reality I was unhappy.”

Things didn’t get better. Collins recalled that Reed offered to have sex with other men for money during their brief marriage, which ended in 1956.

“We were at Les Ambassadeurs, a terribly fancy nightclub in Mayfair,” she recalled. “Max had a habit of being attracted to rich, older men, and I was beginning to get a vague idea of ​​what this was about. Max told me, ‘He’ll pay you £10,000 for a night – and I can even watch.’ I looked at my handsome, hideous husband and started to cry. ‘No way.'”

Collins said she decided to “go home to mom.” They had a messy divorce in which he tried to get alimony because he claimed to have discovered her. She said the divorce cost her millions. Reed died in 1974 at age 55.

The English actress also said she was sexually harassed by film producer and studio executive Darryl Zanuck. She said the boss of 20th Century Fox, who hired her after her appearance in Land of the Pharaohs”,nailed me to a board like a bug and said, ‘You need a real man, darling, a real man.'”

She added: “Luckily a makeup artist came down the hall and I was able to escape.”

Collins described herself as a “survivor” in the BBC documentary.

“I survived being a young actress when virtually all men were predators,” she said. “It used to be said that female stars were finished by 27, but here I am, after seven decades in the business, to tell you a thing or two about surviving the perils of the profession.”

In addition to Reed, Collins married Anthony Newley, Ronald S. Kass, Peter Holm and her current husband Percy Gibson. The mother of three also dated Harry Belafonte (while he was married) and was engaged to Warren Beatty.
