Former Waterhouse footballer acquitted of rape and kidnapping charges | News

A former Waterhouse footballer who was accused of raping a 16-year-old girl was today acquitted of rape and kidnapping charges.

Stephorn Brown, 28, was found not guilty on both counts by a seven-member jury following a trial in the Home Circuit Court.

The jury, consisting of four women and three men, deliberated for an hour before reaching a unanimous verdict.

The prosecution presented evidence that Brown threw the plaintiff over his shoulder and carried her home after a party in Waterhouse on a Sunday evening in October 2018.

It is alleged that Brown held the teenager captive and raped her in his home.

But under cross-examination, the plaintiff was unable to recall crucial details before, during and after the sexual encounter, such as whether she knew Brown or when she returned home after the alleged rape.

She claimed she came home at 11pm, but the evidence said it was 3pm.

She also recounted details of the incident that were never reported to police. The plaintiff first recalled that Brown had ripped his clothing during the encounter and that she had bitten him twice when she resisted his advances.

In his defense, Brown insisted that the sex was consensual and that the plaintiff lied because of a disagreement.

He also claimed that they had known each other for some time before the alleged incident.

The footballer was represented by lawyer Richard Lynch.
