The victim’s condition is critical and he will be taken to a local hospital, the prosecutor’s office said.

The attack occurred around 9:20 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot of the Glen Oaks apartment complex on Route 138, authorities said. Wall Township police found the woman with numerous serious injuries and took her to the hospital, authorities said.

Investigators found that Williams repeatedly attacked the woman with a machete, causing the injuries, authorities said.

Williams was charged with attempted first-degree murder, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree illegal possession of a weapon (in relation to the machete), prosecutors said.

“The accusation of endangerment arises from the fact that the victim’s child was in the immediate vicinity at the time of the attack,” authorities said.

Williams was arrested and his detention hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday in Monmouth County Superior Court before Superior Court Judge Richard W. English, prosecutors said.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office – Major Crimes Bureau – and Wall Township Police are investigating.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joseph Cummings of the MCPO Major Crimes Bureau. Williams’ attorney was not immediately available.
