Boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ, reopens after state of emergency lifted – NBC10 Philadelphia

The boardwalk in Wildwood, New Jersey, reopened early Monday after access to the popular Memorial Day beach destination was restricted overnight due to the declaration of a state of emergency.

At around 5:30 a.m., police lifted the state of emergency, saying it was over after “the City of Wildwood was able to effectively address numerous incidents of civil unrest and ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors.”

The access restriction for the promenade was introduced after midnight on Monday morning. Police spoke of “civil unrest that threatens the public health, safety and well-being of our residents and visitors alike.”

However, authorities in Wildwood have not cited any specific incident as the reason for the earlier declaration of a state of emergency.

On Monday morning, NBC10’s Brenna Weick was on the scene as police officers removed the tape that had cordoned off the boardwalk overnight.

NBC10 is currently trying to determine if a specific incident was the cause for the state of emergency being declared and what impact it may have had on businesses along the boardwalk.

The closure of the boardwalk followed an incident that occurred on Saturday in Ocean City, New Jersey, where crowds fled in panic after a teenager was stabbed on the boardwalk.
