Suspect arrested in 2013 sexual assault in El Salvador

According to police, David Ernesto Cuevas Maldonado is being held without bail at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Virginia – A suspect in a 2013 sexual assault case was arrested in El Salvador and extradited to Virginia for sentencing, according to a news release from the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD).

According to FCPD, David Ernesto Cuevas Maldonado was arrested, charged with sexual assault and released on bail before fleeing to El Salvador in 2014.

The U.S. Department of Justice was instrumental in the recent arrest in El Salvador. Maldonado is currently being held without bail at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, according to FCPD.

Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about this case to call the FCPD’s Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800 and select option 3. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.

The FCPD also said victim specialists have been assigned to provide assistance and resources to the victim’s family.
