Jeremy Renner fell asleep after an accident while filming Mayor of Kingstown

Jeremy Renner spoke to the LA Times about returning to the “Mayor of Kingstown” set after his near-fatal snowplow accident.

In January 2023, Renner was run over by his own snowcat, weighing at least 14,330 pounds, and suffered severe chest trauma – including a collapsed lung – and 38 broken bones.

In the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown,” Renner plays Mike McLusky, a power broker in a fictional Michigan town dealing with incarceration. He returned to the set in January this year, a year after his accident.

Renner told the LA Times that his first week back home, he sometimes fell asleep while filming a scene: “They say, ‘And action!’ And I was outside. We realized they were making me work too hard, too many hours, too many days in a row,” he said. “What I am ready To do is everything but what I am capable to do is something else.”

He said producers accommodated him by changing filming schedules as jet lag was now taking an extraordinary toll on his body. Instead of flying back and forth to California, Renner remained in Pittsburgh for most of the four-month shoot.

“You have to treat me like I’m a child actor,” Renner joked. “The mayor of Kingstown is like a 14-year-old now.”

As a result of his snowplow accident, the actor’s eye bulged out of his skull. However, according to Renner, the accident had some unexpected benefits. He said that he now had a photographic memory, which was useful in memorizing dialogue.

“The eyeball that came out of my head? I see better in this eye than in the other eye,” Renner said. “I think I’m going bionic.”

“Mayor of Kingstown” Season 3 is scheduled to release on Paramount+ on June 2nd.
