Cher Lloyd gets into an accident with children after the car’s brakes fail

Singer Cher Lloyd said she was “counting her lucky stars” after she and her two children were in a car accident where the brakes failed.

The former X Factor contestant posted on Instagram that she was driving her Ford Ranger when “her brakes failed completely without warning” and that it was a “total engine failure due to the wet belt.”

“I count my lucky stars that my family is safe,” she said.

Lloyd added that her five-year-old and eight-month-old daughters were in the car with her at the time of the accident.

The Independent has reached out to Lloyd and her representative for comment.

Lloyd was a contestant on The X Factor in 2010 and was hugely popular despite coming fourth, behind One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson and series winner Matt Cardle.

Lloyd was initially signed to Simon Cowell’s record label Syco, but she parted ways with the label in 2013 due to differences with the type of music she wanted to make and moved to Universal Music.

Speaking to Larry King about her relationship with Cowell, Lloyd said at the time: “I think he found me – I wouldn’t say disobedient – but a bit (difficult). “I have a certain thing that I reach for, so I have my own idea of how I’m going to get it.”

She then released two studio albums, Sticks + stones in 2011 and Sorry I’m too late in 2014. She released a single MIA in 2019, along with a music video.

MIA is reportedly Lloyd’s lead single from her upcoming third studio album.

Lloyd cited rapper Nicki Minaj as an artistic inspiration, saying, “I’ve always been a big fan of Nicki, she’s like number one for me.”

“No one did what she did, and then she came in and it was kind of one of those things where people were like, ‘Woah.’ She simply changed pop music. And she did! There’s no denying that,” she told Pop Crush.
