77-year-old woman dies after being hit by two cars in Freeport

A 77-year-old woman died after she was struck by two cars while trying to cross a street in Freeport on Saturday.

Investigators say the woman was crossing Merrick Road when she was struck by an eastbound Honda Accord around 8:30 p.m.

According to authorities, she was struck by a Dodge Durango a short time later. Officials said she was then taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

According to investigators, both drivers remained at the scene of the accident. An investigation is underway.
