Atlanta honored Mary J. Blige with her own day

Atlanta commemorated singer Mary J. Blige, a multiple Grammy Award winner and Oscar-nominated actress, with its own day called “A Woman’s Strength Day,” HipHopDX reports.

Named after her 2017 album, the honor was bestowed upon her as an introduction to her “Strength of a Woman Festival & Summit,” which took place this Mother’s Day weekend.

Blige received the honor from Atlanta City Councilwoman Keisha Sean Waites in the presence of celebrities including ATL native 2 Chainz.

As EBONY previously reported, Blige’s “Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit” was held in collaboration with Pepsi and Live Nation and featured performances from Chaka Khan, Xscape, City Girls, Queen Naija, Omeretta and, of course, Blige.

In addition to the concert, the festival focused on female empowerment culture, tackling topics such as wellness, beauty, technology and music.

“Storytellers” presented by BET Studios highlighted women working in music, television and film, and “Building Beauty Brands From the Inside Out” highlighted women interested in starting their own businesses in the industry of beauty.

The awards and accolades continue to roll in for For Blige, as she is set to receive the Icon Award at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards on May 15, 2022.
