KCPD reports a homicide investigation is underway after the argument escalated into a shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City police responded to a homicide that left one man dead Saturday.

The incident happened just before 9 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of East 29th Street.

As KCPD officers were en route to the scene, the call was changed from shots fired to a shooting.

When they arrived, officers were taken to an apartment within the complex where someone had been shot. There, they found an unresponsive man with “apparent gunshot trauma,” KCPD reported.

Officers provided the man with medical aid until emergency medical services arrived. Emergency services then took over and the man was pronounced dead.

KCPD’s initial investigation has led them to believe the incident began as an argument and escalated to gunfire. They are investigating the shooting as a murder.

A man has been identified as a suspicious person and police are trying to locate him.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel are actively collecting witness statements and evidence. A social worker from the department is also on site to provide resources to those affected by the incident.
