Cleveland man sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing minors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland man accused of two counts of sexual assault has been sentenced to three decades in prison.

Cuyahoga County Court Judge William McGinty on Tuesday sentenced 34-year-old Damaine Bringht to a minimum term of 30 years behind bars and ordered him to register as a sex offender.

McGinty imposed a 19-year prison sentence for the sexual assault of two juveniles in Lakewood and an 11-year prison sentence for another sexual assault case.

On August 12 of last year, a 15-year-old boy and two 16-year-old girls saw Bringht watching them from his car in a Lakewood park, prosecutors said.

Bringht followed the girls to one of their homes and broke in, prosecutors say. He pulled out a gun and attacked two of them, then fled with two cell phones and a surveillance camera, authorities say. He disposed of the cell phones on Interstate 490, prosecutors say.

After police arrived, the victims were taken to a hospital where a sexual assault kit was prepared, officials say.

Prosecutors say Bringht was identified on outdoor surveillance video footage. He was arrested two days later and charged with multiple crimes in August. Last month, he pleaded guilty to rape, sexual assault, theft, tampering with evidence and burglary.

“This man traumatized three young women,” Cuyahoga County District Attorney Michael O’Malley said in a news release. “The victims and the Lakewood community should find some peace knowing that Mr. Bringht is serving 30 years behind bars.”

Bringht was charged in Lakewood a few days after the attack. A month later, he posted $100,000 bail and was released from county jail.

In November, Bringht was charged again in a separate case, accusing him of rape, sexual assault and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Last month, he pleaded guilty to rape.
