Toddler dies after incident in Milton, Vermont, police say

A toddler in Chittenden County tragically died earlier this month in an incident that is currently under investigation, according to local police. Milton police and first responders reported that they were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive 18-month-old child in the parking lot of a business on Center Drive on the evening of July 24. Once on the scene, Milton Rescue, accompanied by Milton and South Burlington police, took the child to the University of Vermont Medical Center to assist the child as quickly as possible. However, emergency room doctors pronounced the child dead soon after, officials said. The Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations has been assigned to lead the investigation into the incident. Both the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Chittenden County District Attorney’s Office are also involved in the investigation. Police did not disclose whether charges have been filed. “The investigation is early in the process and we are asking the public for their thoughts on the family and community members affected,” Milton Police Chief Stephen Laroche said in a prepared statement. “This is a traumatic incident for everyone involved.” NBC5 is working to confirm further details and will announce them as they become available.
