Man from Kuna arrested for illegal possession of explosives

Residents of a Kuna neighborhood were ordered to evacuate while a bomb disposal squad secured the explosives.

KUNA, Idaho – A Kuna man is in jail after police found explosives in his home.

Tyson Jardine, 37, was arrested after police found the explosive devices and tracked the man to a campground in Elmore County. Jardine is charged with five counts of illegal possession of bombs or explosive devices.

“What we have found so far is that it does not appear that he was working with any groups or organizations that had a plan to use these explosives,” Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford said during a press conference on Sunday.

The Ada County Sheriff’s Office was notified on July 24 of suspicious activity at a home in a Kuna neighborhood where illegal explosives and chemicals were found in the garage.

Officials told neighbors to evacuate while the Boise Police Department Bomb Disposal Squad, FBI and Idaho National Guard were dispatched to remove the explosives.

“Preliminary information indicated there was no threat to public safety from mass destruction,” Clifford said.

Jardine had not been seen home for weeks and was tracked to a campground near Pine. According to ACSO, Jardine, a convicted felon, had a firearm and drugs on him when he was arrested.

The sheriff’s office said Jardine was trying to flee from police when he was attacked at the campground.

“Tyson backed into a Meridian Police armored vehicle and then crashed into the ADA Metro Bearcat armored vehicle – damaging both vehicles,” Clifford said. “Tyson was arrested without further incident and booked into the Elmore County Jail without bail.”

After his arraignment in Elmore County, Jardine will be extradited to Ada County. Clifford said additional charges may be filed in the future.
