Lawmakers draw attention to plane crash investigation, question CAAN’s role – myRepublica

KATHMANDU, July 28: A session of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday demanded an impartial investigation into the Saurya Airlines plane crash that killed 18 people on July 24.

Members of the House of Representatives called for a thorough investigation into the incident and expressed concerns about the safety of air travel, which is considered the safest mode of transportation.

MPs from various political parties, including Sanjay Gautam, Rajendra Bajgain, Purna Bahadur Tamang, Sunita Baral, Purna Bahadur Gharti and Sarbendra Nath Shukla, questioned the role of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and Saurya Airlines.

They called on the government to thoroughly investigate the incident and identify those responsible for the accident.

In response to the crash, the government formed a five-member committee to investigate and determine the cause of the accident.

In addition, many lawmakers criticized the regulation of the CAAN and emphasized the need for a restructuring that would separate the roles of the CAAN as a service provider and as a regulator.

In addition, MP Rajendra Bajgain demanded the removal of CAAN Director General Pradeep Adhikari from his post.
