Man arrested for drug possession after shoplifting in Zavala County | State

LA PRYOR, Texas — According to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office, a man was arrested for drug possession early Thursday morning following a shoplifting and traffic stop.

On July 25, 2024, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Deputy #708 observed Tomas Diaz exit the TXB in La Pryor and enter a maroon Ford Expedition. Diaz was involved in a shoplifting incident at the Shell gas station in Crystal City on July 24, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m.

The vehicle was stopped on US 83 south of La Pryor. The driver, identified as Hector Libby Seplveda, did not have a valid driver’s license. After explaining the reason for the stop, Seplveda consented to a search of the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle, officers found a box of insulin syringes in the back seat area. During a search, a clear plastic bag wrapped in a paper towel fell out of Diaz’s shorts. The bag contained a thick, black, tar-like substance weighing 16.63 grams. Diaz was arrested and taken to the Zavala County Jail.

Seplveda was released on a summons and given a free ride back to TXB in La Pryor. The vehicle was impounded by Garcia’s Wrecker. Later, prison officials found two glass pipes while searching Diaz. He was charged with second degree possession of a controlled substance (PG1 >=4g<200g).
